Gadfly Invitational at College Station

Game 3: Not to be outdone by the adrenaline charged Beaumont-Aurora game, College Station and Alexandria put on a show that included their own white-knuckle finish. Four free throws with less than 15 seconds to play inflated the score from a 66-64 contest to a final of 70-64 in favor of the Injunction.  Ken Strange's 21 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals led the way for the victors.

In yet another tight contest that had the teams matched at 16 all after 10, and Alexandria taking a 1 point lead (33-32) to intermission, the real fun didn't start until the final minutes.  Alexandria had limited College Station's most dangerous weapon, freshman Ken Strange to just four points in the first half.  Immediately after the break, the Injunction pounded it inside and Strange responded by scoring 13 points in the first 9 minutes of the second half. In the first ten minutes of the second half College Station slowly built a 9 point lead that proved barely enough in the end.  Tom Swift made a nifty pass to Fletcher Salmon who hit a midrange jumper that put the Injunction up 44-43 with 14:14 to play.  What seemed like an insignificant basket, if there is such a thing, turned out to be the last time Alexandria would lead in the game.

However, poor free throw shooting by senior Galen Manuel allowed the Revolutionaries to scratch back into it, pulling to within 4 with over three minutes to play (62-66).  The Injunction couldn't find a way to score, and Dante Tyson's jumper with 1:46 made the score 64-66. Joe Roach stole the inbounds pass from Galen Manuel, and the Revolutionaries fumbled away their best opportunity when Tyson threw the ball out of bounds.  With 1:22 to go, College Station took possession and milked the clock and grabbed two offensive rebounds.  Finally, with 15 seconds left to go, Alexandria had to foul junior PG Raphael Linker.  Linker sank his free throws, Tyson missed a three, and Ken Strange went to the foul line and finished the scoring with a pair of his own.  The final was 70-64.

MVP: Ken Strange, 6'11 Fr. C, 21 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 7-13 shooting
